Rise. Run. Remember.
Rise. Run. Remember.
Though they can no longer train, we carry on. We run to honor our fallen heroes and ensure their memory lives on. We will never let them down.

The TCR Dedication Run began with a simple idea: bring a meaningful Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tradition to the Western Slope. Allison Willis, a former LA County Sheriff’s deputy and now instructor at the Technical College of the Rockies Police Academy, saw the impact when each academy class dedicated itself to a fallen officer. To earn their patches, recruits trained for months, completed a memorial run for a chosen deputy, and then honored the fallen by inviting the officer’s family to a formal ceremony—a day known as the “Colors Run” that united sweat, sacrifice, and remembrance. service together in a way no classroom lesson ever could.

The TCR Police Academy started the Dedication Run to bring a tradition of honoring fallen officers to the Western Slope. Surrounded by mountains and close-knit communities, this run is now a local way to remember and honor those who gave everything, rooted in the Western Slope tradition of grit, courage, and pride.

Today, the Dedication Run lets cadets show their hard work and commitment to family, friends, and agency partners. It’s a reminder of their training and the high standards they uphold. It also unites the entire Western Slope law enforcement community—past, present, and future—to honor sacrifices, remember the fallen, and stand together as one law enforcement family.

During the run, participants move in a formation run and sing "jodies"—organized lines of runners staying in step as one team. Anyone can join, no law enforcement experience needed; just come ready to run alongside cadets, officers, families, and community members.
Jodies are rhythmic, call-and-response running chants traditionally used in military and police training. They help large groups stay in step, regulate breathing, and keep a steady pace over distance. The shared rhythm distracts from fatigue, making hard work feel more manageable. Just as important, jodies build camaraderie—everyone’s voice is heard, everyone carries the cadence, and the group feels like one team moving with a common purpose.
